About ATS files
The .ats file is primarily an Artistic CAD/CAM model file used by Autodesk ArtCAM for 3D modeling and CNC machining. It can also function as a thermal imaging data file from FLIR Systems or an Advanced ETL Transformation Script. To open or convert ArtCAM .ats files, users historically relied on Autodesk ArtCAM, which was discontinued in 2018, or its successor, Carveco. The major disadvantage of the .ats format is its proprietary, closed nature. It locks 3D geometry and CNC toolpaths into an expensive ecosystem that is no longer supported by its original creator. Users without active legacy licenses cannot view the models, and web browsers cannot natively render the file. To regain access to their data, users typically need to convert .ats files to standard 3D formats like STL, OBJ, or DXF for 3D printing or modern CNC routing. However, direct conversion usually requires the original software, and some machine-specific toolpaths may be lost during export. This file format is notoriously difficult to open or convert because often only the original software can properly read or export the proprietary toolpath data. Standard online converters fail to process it. Since many CAD .ats files use an internal ZIP structure, our engine can inspect the file and show text or internal content. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
