About AOB files

AOB files are the core payload containers found within the AUDIO_TS directory of DVD-Audio discs. Unlike standard CDs, these files store high-definition, multi-channel audio using formats like LPCM or MLP (Meridian Lossless Packing), capable of resolutions up to 24-bit/192kHz.

While this format offers superior audiophile quality, it is functionally obsolete for modern workflows. .AOB files are essentially locked containers; they are frequently protected by CPPM (Content Protection for Prerecorded Media) encryption, meaning you cannot simply drag them off a disc and play them in Windows Media Player or iTunes. Even unencrypted files often fail to open in standard players due to the lack of MLP codec support. Their massive file sizes also make them impractical for streaming or mobile storage.

For archiving your physical media collection without quality loss, converting .AOB to FLAC is the best strategy, as it preserves the exact audio data in a compressed, widely supported format. For listening on phones or tablets, converting to MP3 or AAC will significantly reduce file size while maintaining acceptable fidelity.

Convert.Guru analyzes your AOB file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted VOB, ISO, ATS, IFO, TXT, WAV and FLAC files.
