Convert a file to AT5
To convert other file formats to the "Marine Chartplotter Map File" file type, you need software like C-MAP or a similar tool.
About AT5 files
The .AT5 file extension primarily represents an electronic nautical vector chart used by Navico marine electronics brands, including C-MAP, Lowrance, and Simrad. These files store critical marine mapping data, such as depth contours, navigation aids, and shoreline vectors, engineered specifically for reading from an SD card inserted into a marine chartplotter. Alternatively, approximately 7% of .AT5 files are SQL-based genealogy databases created by Agelong Tree or Ancestris software.
The main disadvantage of marine .AT5 files is their strictly proprietary, closed-source nature. They cannot be natively opened by standard web browsers, general GIS software like QGIS, or standard text editors. Because they are locked to specific hardware ecosystems, performing backups or trip planning on a standard PC is heavily restricted without specialized developer tools like the Insight Map Creator. For the genealogy variant, sharing family tree data with users who do not own Agelong Tree requires purchasing the software just to export the data.
Users frequently attempt to convert marine .AT5 files to open GIS formats like GPX or KML for route planning on Google Earth, or MBTILES for offline mobile viewing. For family trees, conversion to the universal GED (GEDCOM) format is the standard goal. However, standard online converters fail completely with .AT5 files because of the complex binary structures and proprietary digital rights management (DRM) layers used in Navico charts.
Because this is a closed, proprietary format, only the original hardware or specialized mapping software can properly read or export the full vector data. Our analysis tools inspect the file, determine if it is a marine map or a SQL family tree database, and attempt to extract embedded text, waypoints, or tabular SQLite data.
Convert.Guru analyzes your AT5 file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert AT5 file to GPX, SHP, KML, KMZ, GEOJSON, TOPOJSON, TIF, TIFF, ECW, SID, IMG or DEM, you can use C-MAP or similar software from the "Nautical Vector Chart Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert LAZ, KMZ, DTM, CSV, DEM, PRJ, LAS, GPX, DSM, SHP, DBF or KML files to AT5, try C-MAP or another comparable tool in the "Nautical Vector Chart Storage" category.
The AT5 Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our AT5 converter.
