The .AT5 extension primarily refers to the Navico Atlas Type 5 format, a proprietary vector chart standard used by marine GPS devices from Lowrance, Simrad, and B&G. These files contain compiled cartographic data - such as bathymetric contours, shorelines, and navigation aids - optimized for high-speed rendering on chartplotter hardware. Because .AT5 files are binary and often encrypted for specific device IDs (Atlas versions 10, 12, or 13), they cannot be opened by standard desktop GIS software like QGIS or Google Earth. Users typically encounter these files when updating chartplotter maps via SD card. The flow is usually one-way: users create .AT5 maps from standard formats like SHP (Shapefile) or GPX using the Insight Map Creator, rather than converting from .AT5 to other formats.
Alternatively, an .AT5 file may be a genealogy database created by Agelong Tree 5. In this context, the file holds family history records, photos, and events.
