About ALD files
The .ALD file extension typically refers to an Alchemy Document File, a proprietary format historically associated with the Alchemy document management system (originally by Captaris, now part of OpenText) and potentially linked to software by Alchemy Mindworks. These files are often found on legacy backup media (CDs/DVDs) as part of a multi-file database structure (alongside DAT and PRO files) used to archive scanned images and metadata. Users frequently struggle to open these files because the original viewing software is obsolete, expensive, or no longer supported on modern Windows. Opening them requires specialized extraction tools to recover the contained document images (typically TIFFs) and index data.
Alternatively, an .ALD file may be a Dynamics AX Application Label Data File used by Microsoft Dynamics AX (now Dynamics 365). These are text-based files containing field labels, messages, and error text for localization purposes. While they are plain text, they are formatted specifically for the Dynamics environment and are often converted to CSV or Excel for easier translation management.
Convert.Guru analyzes your ALD file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert ALD file to CSV, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, INI, CFG, CONF, DAT, DB or SQL, you can use Alchemy Mindworks or similar software from the "Document Management Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DBF, XML, SQLITE, XLSX, SQL, TSV, ACCDB, YAML, MDB, CSV, ODS or JSON files to ALD, try Alchemy Mindworks or another comparable tool in the "Document Management Storage" category.
The ALD Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our ALD converter.
