About AGI files

The .AGI file extension primarily represents a lighting calculation project created by AGi32, the industry-standard software for photometric prediction. These files serve as containers for 3D environments, luminaire data, and complex calculation points used by lighting designers and electrical engineers.

Since the .AGI format is a proprietary container (often internally compressed with zlib), it presents significant compatibility barriers. You cannot simply drag an .AGI file into AutoCAD or Revit to view the lighting layout; the recipient must possess a licensed copy of the AGi32 software to open the source file. This lock-in makes client communication difficult.

Conversion Recommendations:

The AGI Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our AGI converter.
