Convert AE to another file type
To convert AE Game files to another format, you need AeroEngineer or other Data software.
Convert a file to AE
To convert other file formats to the "Design or Encrypted Data" file type, you need software like AeroEngineer or a similar tool.
About AE files
The .AE file extension primarily acts as a Glider design data file used by AeroEngineer and GliderSim software. Alternatively, it serves as an AES Encrypted file generated by AES Crypt, or as a game data container for the 1997 MS-DOS RPG game Amulets & Armor by United Software Artists.
You can typically only open these files using their respective host applications. To access an encrypted .AE file, you need the AES Crypt software and the correct decryption password. For glider aerodynamics data, you must load the file into AeroEngineer.
The main disadvantage of the .AE format is its highly specialized, proprietary nature. These files cannot be opened by web browsers or standard text editors. Encrypted .AE files present a strict barrier: they are securely locked and mathematically unreadable without the exact password. Standard online converters fail with .AE files because they either cannot bypass the AES encryption, or they lack the internal parsers required to interpret niche aerodynamic physics parameters and vintage game engine assets.
Converting a glider .AE file usually means exporting the physics data to standard engineering formats like CSV for spreadsheet analysis or DXF for CAD drafting, but this export must happen within the original software. Encrypted files cannot be converted at all until they are decrypted back to their original file type.
Because these are closed formats, online conversion is inherently difficult. However, just drag and drop your file onto convert.guru to identify the format, view its internal hex structure, and convert it if our system detects a supported underlying format.
Convert.Guru analyzes your AE file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert AE file to MP4, AVI, MOV, WMV, FLV, WEBM, MKV, M4V, 3GP, OGV, ASF or RM, you can use AeroEngineer or similar software from the "Glider Design & Encrypted Data" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert MTS, MOV, RMVB, DIVX, RM, H264, TS, WMV, VOB, MP4, XVID or AVI files to AE, try AeroEngineer or another comparable tool in the "Glider Design & Encrypted Data" category.
The AE Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our AE converter.
