About ADB files

The .adb file extension is a polymorphic format that most frequently functions as an Absolute Database file, a single-file embedded database replacement for the Borland Database Engine (BDE) in Delphi applications. It acts as a compact, high-speed container for relational data, triggers, and stored procedures. Alternatively, .adb files serve as Ada Body files, containing the implementation logic for the Ada programming language (distinct from ads specifications). In mobile contexts, users may encounter them as Android backup files generated via the Android Debug Bridge.

The primary issue with Absolute Database files is proprietary lock-in; they are single-file database systems that cannot be opened by standard SQL clients like DBeaver or Microsoft Excel without specific drivers or the ComponentAce SDK. This makes data extraction for reporting or migration difficult. Similarly, while Ada source files are plain text, they require specific compilers like GNAT to execute, and Android backups are often compressed or encrypted binaries that are unreadable without extraction tools.

For Database variants (Absolute, SQLite, or Jet), the best conversion target is CSV or XLSX for data analysis and reporting, or standard SQL dumps for migrating to systems like MySQL or PostgreSQL. For Ada Source Code, converting to PDF or HTML is ideal for code documentation and archiving.

Convert.Guru analyzes your ADB file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted AD55B1JG, ABD, PDF, PSD, JPG, JPEG, APK, APX, AWW, APH and ARB files.

The ADB Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our ADB converter.
