Extract text from Android backup files (ADB)
To convert ADB backups to another format, you need Absolute Database or other Database software.
To convert other file formats to the "Relational Database or Backup" file type, you need software like Absolute Database or a similar tool.
The .adb file extension is heavily overloaded and used by dozens of completely unrelated software ecosystems. Most commonly, it functions as an Absolute Database file (used by Delphi developers), a Microsoft Jet or SQLite 3 database, an Android Device Backup created via the Android Debug Bridge, or an Ada programming language source code body.
Because of this extreme fragmentation, handling an .adb file is notoriously frustrating. If you do not know the file's exact origin, standard software will almost certainly fail to open it. Proprietary formats like Absolute Database require a dedicated viewer or a specific Delphi environment. Android backups are usually compressed and encrypted, preventing direct file browsing without the Android SDK. Ada source files are just plain text, but Windows will still refuse to open them without a mapped application.
To break out of these software silos, you need to convert the file into a universally readable format. For databases, convert to CSV or SQL to access your data in Excel or any SQL viewer. For Android backups, convert or extract the payload into a standard TAR or ZIP archive. For Ada source code, convert to TXT or C for easy code review.
