About ADA files

The .ADA extension typically represents two completely different file types, creating a common point of confusion.

1. Absolute Database File: This is a proprietary, single-file database format developed by ComponentAce. It acts as a BDE (Borland Database Engine) replacement for Delphi and C++ Builder applications. The frustrating part here is the proprietary lock-in; these files behave like a black box. You cannot simply double-click to open them in Excel or standard SQL viewers. To access the data, you typically need the original software or a dedicated export tool to convert the tables into CSV, SQL, or XML for use in modern systems.

2. Ada Source Code: Less frequently in modern workflows, but historically significant, a .ADA file contains source code written in the Ada programming language (named after Ada Lovelace). These are standard plain text files. The issue users face is that modern operating systems do not associate this extension with a text editor by default. For documentation or archiving, the best practice is to convert these source files to PDF (to preserve formatting) or simply rename them to TXT for universal compatibility.

Convert.Guru analyzes your ADA file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted ADS, SAS, S19, SOL, BTC, C++, USDC and XRP files.

The ADA Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our ADA converter.
