About AAA files

The .AAA file extension is primarily associated with AhnLab security software as compressed archive files, or as quarantined executables by AVG Antivirus. Tragically, it is also notoriously known as the extension appended to files encrypted by TeslaCrypt and CryptoWall ransomware variants. Other minor uses include diagnostic X-ray spectrum data for IPEM Report 78 and game archives in American McGee's Alice. AhnLab files are often standard ZIP archives under the hood. Ransomware files require specific decryption tools rather than standard converters. Quarantined EXE files are secured by AVG to prevent execution. Users often encounter these files when trying to recover hijacked data or open security backups. The disadvantage of this format is its severe fragmentation and lack of standardization. An .AAA file could be a benign ZIP archive, a dangerous quarantined EXE, or an inaccessible JPG locked by military-grade encryption. Standard online converters fail because they rely solely on the extension, not the internal binary structure. For AhnLab archives, renaming to ZIP or extracting to standard folders is recommended. For AVG quarantined files, restoring them safely to EXE is the goal, though highly risky. For ransomware files, conversion to their original formats like JPG or DOCX requires specialized decryption keys, meaning direct conversion is impossible. These files are heavily restricted, encrypted, or obfuscated. Only the original software or a dedicated decryption tool can properly read or export the data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your AAA file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted AAE, PPTX, BIN, ZIP, Z01, Z02, AA, MP3 and USB files.

The AAA Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our AAA converter.
