The .3DP extension is a classic example of file format fragmentation, shared by over a dozen unrelated software applications ranging from digital publishing to industrial surveying. Most commonly (approx. 18%), it represents a 3D PageFlip book created by 3D PageFlip, often functioning as a renamed ZIP archive containing images and Flash/HTML5 assets for interactive brochures. However, users frequently encounter this format as a 3D Home Design project from Coohom (formerly Kujiale), a cycling performance log from PerfPRO Studio, or 3D point cloud data from surveying tools like 3Dsurvey and older Autodesk reality capture software.
The key problem with .3DP files is their lack of interoperability. A .3DP file created in a cycling app cannot be opened by a 3D printer, and a digital flipbook cannot be read by CAD software. Many of these formats are strictly proprietary, locking your data inside niche or expensive ecosystems. For example, older Autodesk ArtCAM relief models are now difficult to access since the software was discontinued and merged into Fusion 360. Users often find themselves with a file they cannot view without purchasing a specific $500+ license.
For 3D PageFlip files, the best conversion target is PDF for document portability or JPG extraction if you rename the file extension to ZIP. For 3D modeling and survey data, the goal is typically converting to OBJ or STL for use in generic CAD tools like Blender. For PerfPRO data, converting to CSV or XLS is standard for analysis.
