Extract text from 3D project files (3DP)
To convert 3DP 3D projects to another format, you need 3D PageFlip or other 3D software.
To convert other file formats to the "3D Project Container File" file type, you need software like 3D PageFlip or a similar tool.
The .3DP file extension is heavily fragmented and used as a proprietary project file across dozens of niche industries. Most commonly, it acts as a 3D page flip book created by 3D PageFlip, or as a reality capture and laser scanner data file used by hardware companies like Trimble and Autodesk.
Because there is no single standard for this extension, users face massive compatibility issues. A .3DP file from an Autodesk ArtCAM 3D relief model will not open in a 3D Systems Sense scanner. Furthermore, these files are often just closed "containers" (such as hidden ZIP, GZIP, or Microsoft Compound documents) holding raw workspace data, images, and toolpaths rather than final, universal 3D geometry.
Sharing these files directly is a poor practice because the recipient must own the exact same version of the proprietary software, which often requires expensive licensing. For reliable sharing or manufacturing, these project files must be converted to universal formats. 3D models and point clouds should be exported to STL, OBJ, or PLY. Flipbooks and layout documents should be saved as PDF. Converting outside the native application usually results in lost project history, textures, or parametric data.
This file format is notoriously difficult to open or convert online. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the complex internal data.
