The .GPP file extension is highly fragmented, meaning it is used by several entirely unrelated software applications. The most common use case is as a project file for Artifact Interactive Garden Planner. In this context, the file stores XML-based vector layout data, plant libraries, and garden dimensions. Another major use is as a project file for Geberit ProPlanner, a specialized tool used for plumbing and sanitary system design. Less frequently, .GPP is used as an archive for Indonesian government payroll data (Aplikasi GPP) or as a multimedia video container (3GPP) for mobile devices.
A major disadvantage of .GPP project files is that they are useless without their parent software. You cannot natively open them in web browsers, and sharing them with clients or colleagues is highly impractical unless they also own the specific, sometimes expensive, software license. Because multiple programs use the exact same extension, Windows and macOS often assign the wrong default program, causing persistent error messages.
To share these designs, users must convert .GPP files to standard formats like PDF, JPG, or PNG. However, because these files act as save states rather than standard documents, they are difficult to open or convert externally. Often, only the original software can properly read, render, or export the data to a printable format.
