The .3DMK file is a discontinued project format created by Autodesk 123D Make. It stores 3D meshes that have been sliced into 2D cross-sections for manufacturing with laser cutters or CNC routers.
Historically, makers used the software to import STL or OBJ files, define material thickness, and generate interlocking physical parts. The .3DMK file saves all these slicing parameters and the original mesh data in a single proprietary container. You cannot manufacture directly from this file; it was designed exclusively to export 2D vector plans.
Because Autodesk officially discontinued the 123D suite in 2017, opening these files today is a major headache. The format is closed and strictly tied to dead software. Standard web browsers cannot read it, and modern CAD applications usually fail to import it. Without the original legacy software, the slicing settings and assembly instructions are locked away.
Ideally, you should convert .3DMK files to standard vector formats like DXF, EPS, or PDF for laser cutting, or extract the base 3D model as an STL. However, because this is a proprietary project file rather than standard geometry, typical online 3D converters fail to process it. Only the original software can reliably interpret the slicing math to export the data.
