About ZTX files

A .ZTX file is primarily used as a compressed game asset, specifically a texture file, within the Zwift virtual cycling platform. It can also function as a PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) project archive for 2%84%A2-control-expert/">Schneider Electric (formerly Unity Pro), or as a localization string dictionary file for Adobe Illustrator.

Because these files serve completely different purposes depending on the originating software, handling them can be frustrating. The Zwift variant is a highly proprietary, closed format optimized solely for the game engine. Standard image viewers and 3D modeling programs cannot open it. Conversely, the PLC project archive is technically just a standard ZIP file holding a PLC program, while the Illustrator variant is plain text encoded in UTF-16 LE.

Users often need to convert or extract these files to access the underlying data, but face strict limitations. Zwift texture files are locked down, undocumented, and explicitly designed to prevent tampering or extraction. There are no official tools to convert them to standard PNG or JPG images. For the PLC archive, the obscure extension prevents standard unarchivers from recognizing the file.

Standard online converters usually fail with .ZTX files because they do not know which variant they are processing. This file format is difficult to open or convert because often only the original software can properly read or export the data. Our platform can inspect the file, and if our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format (like a ZIP container or a UTF-16 text structure), viewing or extraction may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your ZTX file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted ZIP, PBIX and ACE files.

The ZTX Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our ZTX converter.
