Extract text from ZBrush tool files (ZTL)

To convert other file formats to the "High-Poly Sculpting File" file type, you need software like Maxon ZBrush or a similar tool.
The .ZTL file extension primarily represents a ZBrush Tool, a digital sculpting project file created by Maxon ZBrush (formerly Pixologic). A ZBrush Tool stores a highly detailed 3D mesh, complete with multiple subdivision levels, Polypaint textures, masking data, and internal SubTools. A secondary, rarer use is a Zillow Transaction Log file, which is essentially a renamed ZIP archive containing real estate property data and panoramic images from the Zillow 3D Home app.
The main disadvantage of the ZBrush .ZTL format is that it is strictly proprietary, closed, and highly specialized. These files frequently exceed several gigabytes in size because they store uncompressed, raw geometry with tens of millions of polygons. You cannot preview them in standard 3D viewers or web browsers, and they require an expensive software subscription to open natively. Standard 3D formats are much more versatile for cross-platform workflows.
If you need to share a ZBrush sculpt for rendering or animation in other software like Blender or Autodesk Maya, the best conversion targets are OBJ or FBX. Note that exporting to these formats usually "bakes" or flattens the mesh, meaning you will lose the dynamic subdivision history. For Zillow files, the best conversion is simply changing the extension to ZIP to extract the images.
