Under the hood, these files are structured as SQLite database files used to store text message histories and call logs securely. Other, less common uses for the .YBK extension include obsolete YanCEyWare eBooks and legacy Microsoft Encarta Integrated Yearbook Updates. The primary disadvantage of the .YBK format is its proprietary or raw database structure. You cannot open a .YBK file in a standard word processor to read your old text messages. Attempting to open it in Notepad will result in a scrambled, unreadable wall of binary code.
