About XXL files

The .XXL file extension primarily represents a Xilog CNC program file used by multi-axis woodworking machines. These files store routing paths, drilling coordinates, and tooling instructions for machinery manufactured by SCM Group. Secondary uses include legacy ProClarity Analytics briefing books or materials testing data created by ZwickRoell testXpert.

To natively open the CNC format, you must use proprietary CAM software like Xilog Plus or Xilog Maestro. If the file is an analytics briefing book, it is tied to obsolete BI tools and may partially open in older versions of Microsoft Excel.

The biggest disadvantage of .XXL files is that they are rigidly locked into their native ecosystems. CNC variants are compiled specifically for individual machine controllers, meaning they are completely useless to clients, designers without the correct CAM software, or standard web browsers. Sharing an .XXL file usually guarantees an "unsupported file type" error for the recipient.

To make this data usable, converting .XXL CNC files back to universal DXF or MPR formats is highly recommended, though complex tooling macros are often lost in translation. For the analytics variant, migrating the data to XLSX or CSV is essential for modern data analysis.

Because .XXL is a closed, proprietary format, standard online converters usually fail to process it. Often, only the original machine's software can properly read or export the exact G-code data. If our analysis detects an underlying supported format - like an embedded spreadsheet or readable text structure - viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your XXL file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted XLSX, XLS, TXT, JPG, PRJZIP, GCO, CNC, PDF, CSV and PGM files.

The XXL Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our XXL converter.
