Convert GCO to another file type
To convert GCO G-code files to another format, you need Ultimaker Cura or other 3D software.
Convert a file to GCO
To convert other file formats to the "3D Printer G-code File" file type, you need software like Ultimaker Cura or a similar tool.
About GCO files
A .gco file is a machine instruction script used to control 3D printers and CNC machines. It contains the standard G-code language, dictating precise X, Y, and Z toolpath movements, as well as extrusion rates and hotend temperatures.
Slicer software like Ultimaker Cura or Simplify3D generates these files by slicing a 3D model into flat 2D layers. The primary disadvantage of a .gco file is that it is a rigid output format, not an editable design file. Because G-code is hard-coded for a specific printer's bed size, firmware limits, and filament type, running a downloaded .gco file on a different 3D printer can cause catastrophic hardware crashes. Additionally, these files are massive, complex text documents that are completely illegible to humans without a dedicated visualizer.
To safely read or edit the raw commands, convert or rename the file to TXT. If your printer firmware fails to recognize the extension, convert it to standard GCODE. If you lost the original 3D model and need to edit the geometry, you can attempt to convert the .gco back to STL or OBJ, though this reverse-engineering process causes severe loss of surface smoothness and parametric data.
Convert.Guru analyzes your GCO file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert GCO file to OBJ, FBX, DAE, 3DS, MAX, BLEND, MA, MB, C4D, STL, PLY or WRL, you can use Ultimaker Cura or similar software from the "3D Printer Machine Instructions" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DWG, DAE, X3D, IGES, WRL, JT, SKP, 3DS, 3DM, OBJ, STEP or FBX files to GCO, try Ultimaker Cura or another comparable tool in the "3D Printer Machine Instructions" category.
The GCO Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our GCO converter.
