The .XSO file extension is exclusively used as an Expresso Regex Project file. It stores regular expressions, test text, and configuration settings used by developers working with Regular expressions in the .NET framework. The primary software to create and open these files is Expresso by Ultrapico.
Users often need to extract the raw regex pattern or test strings from an .XSO file when moving to modern web-based programming environments or regex testers. The main disadvantage of the .XSO format is its proprietary, legacy nature. It is locked to a specific desktop application that requires installation and runs only on Windows.
