About MG1 files
The .mg1 file is a proprietary sequence and arrangement file created by Band-in-a-Box by PG Music Inc or Cakewalk Express by Cakewalk. These files store musical instructions, chord progressions, and arrangement data used to generate auto-accompaniment tracks. They do not contain actual audio recordings. Users frequently need to convert these files because they are locked into proprietary software ecosystems. You cannot play an .mg1 file on a smartphone, upload it to a streaming service, or listen to it in a standard web browser. Furthermore, sharing the file with another musician requires them to own the same software and the same virtual instruments. The best target formats for an .mg1 file are standard .MID (MIDI) files to preserve the raw musical notation data across different digital audio workstations, or .WAV and .MP3 for universal listening. Converting to audio means losing the ability to easily edit the chord progressions, but it guarantees playback on any device. Converting these files directly through generic tools is exceptionally difficult. The .mg1 format relies on proprietary algorithms and closed-source auto-accompaniment logic to generate the sound. Standard online converters fail because they lack the specific sound banks and synth engines required to render the audio. However, convert.guru provides a realistic workaround. Just drag and drop your file to identify the format, view its internal structure, and convert it when possible. If our analysis detects a supported underlying embedded MIDI format, extraction or viewing may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your MG1 file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert MG1 file to EXE, ISO, BIN, CUE, PAK, WAD, PK3, PK4, BSP, MAP, SAV or DAT, you can use Band-in-a-Box or similar software from the "Music Sequencing and Arrangement" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….

The MG1 Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our MG1 converter.
