About XSA files
An .XSA file is primarily a Xilinx Support Archive used to transfer hardware design specifications between AMD Xilinx Vivado and the Vitis software platform. It packages all necessary metadata, drivers, and bitstreams required for FPGA development. This format has significant disadvantages for general users. It is a proprietary container built for a highly specialized ecosystem. Opening these files officially requires installing massive development environments that often exceed 50GB. Without this software, the file appears useless to the operating system. However, the current format is actually an unencrypted ZIP archive under the hood. You need to convert or extract this file to access the raw XML hardware definitions, TCL scripts, and BIT bitstream files locked inside. The best target format for conversion is ZIP. By converting or simply renaming the file to ZIP, you bypass the need for expensive and heavy software. Alternatively, less common versions of the .XSA extension include compressed game animations for the Diesel game engine and compressed disk images for the MSX home computer system. This file format is difficult to open or convert because it is tightly integrated into closed-source, proprietary workflows. Emphasize that often only the original software can properly read or export the data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format like the standard ZIP structure, viewing or extraction may still be possible.
