About XPL files
The .xpl extension represents a diverse set of file types, primarily serving as a system plugin for the X-Plane flight simulator. These files act as compiled binaries (similar to DLL on Windows or SO on Linux) that add functionality, custom avionics, or scenery logic to the simulator. Because they are executable code, they cannot be 'opened' in a standard text editor and are often version-specific, leading to compatibility errors if the simulator version does not match. Users typically encounter friction when trying to view the internal logic or when managing plugins across different operating systems (Windows/macOS/Linux).
A significant secondary use for .xpl is within Explain Everything, a collaborative digital whiteboard platform. In this context, the file is a project archive containing slides, audio, and annotations. These proprietary project files are difficult to share with users who do not have the software installed. For archiving or sharing purposes, it is highly recommended to convert Explain Everything .xpl projects to PDF for static document viewing or MP4 video if the project contains recorded explanations. For .xpl files identified as Akai audio presets (XML-based), converting them to standard TXT or JSON allows users to view parameter data without specialized music software.
Convert.Guru analyzes your XPL file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
Users also converted XPS, RDATA, XML, IDF, C9R and MJP files.
The XPL Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our XPL converter.
