The .WVD extension represents two distinct, high-friction technical formats used in enterprise industries. Most commonly (30%), it is a WellView Data file generated by Peloton (not the fitness company), the standard software for oil and gas well lifecycle management. These files function as proprietary containers - often structured internally as ZIP archives - holding drilling reports, schematics, and production logs. The primary challenge users face is the 'walled garden' of the Peloton ecosystem; without a costly license, accessing the historical well data for migration or analysis in Microsoft Excel is difficult.
Alternatively (24%), a .WVD file is a Widevine Device provisioning file. This binary format is used in the Google Widevine DRM ecosystem to store a device's unique Client ID and Private Key.
