About HIS files

The .his file extension is a chameleon format used by dozens of unrelated software systems to store "history" data. It is most commonly associated with Vaisala AviMet weather logging systems, Her Interactive video games (as audio containers), and PerkinElmer digital X-ray imaging.

Because .his files are typically proprietary, they present significant access challenges. A .his file from a medical device is a high-bit-depth image, while one from a game is audio, and one from a server is a text log. Standard operating systems cannot distinguish between them, leading to errors when trying to open them with default applications like Windows Media Player or Microsoft Word. Users frequently encounter "file format not supported" errors or see garbled binary text when attempting to view them.

To use these files, you must convert them based on their origin:

Convert.Guru analyzes your HIS file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted MOM, MLF and PTS files.

The HIS Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our HIS converter.
