A .WSD file usually serves one of three very different purposes, creating significant compatibility challenges. Most commonly, it is a text-based Web Sequence Diagram script used by tools like PlantUML to generate UML diagrams from code. In industrial settings, it often represents a proprietary project file for WAGO-I/O-PRO automation software or electrical schematics for WSCAD. Historically, it was also used by the legacy word processor WordStar.
