About WRX files
The .WRX file is a binary resource file created by Microsoft Visual Basic (specifically legacy versions like VB6). It serves as a sidecar to the CTL (UserControl) file, storing non-textual properties that cannot be saved as plain text code. While the CTL file contains the source code in ASCII format, the .WRX file holds binary blobs such as Bitmaps, Icons, Cursors, and proprietary OLE Structured Storage data assigned at design time.
Users typically encounter this format when attempting to migrate legacy VB6 projects to NET or when trying to salvage graphics from old source code. A common point of friction is that .WRX files are completely opaque; you cannot view them in a text editor like Notepad++, and if the file is lost or corrupted, the parent CTL file will fail to load in the IDE. For modern development, these files are often converted to RESX (Managed Resources) for use in Visual Studio or parsed to extract embedded images into standard BMP, ICO, or PNG formats.
Convert.Guru analyzes your WRX file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The WRX Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our WRX converter.
