About STI files
The .sti file extension is highly fragmented, serving several completely different software applications depending on its origin. Its most recognizable use is as an OpenDocument Presentation Template created by Apache OpenOffice Impress or legacy StarOffice. In this context, it stores the structural layout, slide masters, fonts, and styling defaults used to generate multiple ODP presentations. Alternatively, .sti is heavily used as a local backup or text export format for desktop sticky note utilities like Zhorn Software Stickies, 7 Sticky Notes, and Ashampoo, often storing unencrypted note data in UTF-16 (LE) text. Finally, it appears in specialized environments as compressed image files for games like Jagged Alliance 2, save files for Into the Breach, or JetDB-based project symbol databases for Siemens SIMATIC engineering software.
Because .sti lacks a single standardized format, opening it can be a frustrating trial-and-error process. Presentation templates are useless if your organization relies on Microsoft Office, which natively prefers POTX or PPTX. Sticky note .sti files are often proprietary to the specific utility that generated them, making it difficult to migrate your notes if you switch to a different desktop app or a new PC.
To guarantee readability and prevent data lock-in, you must convert these files based on their true origin. For OpenOffice templates, convert to PPTX or ODP for active editing, or to PDF for fixed archiving and cross-platform sharing. For sticky note backups, convert to plain TXT or CSV to extract the raw text data safely so it can be imported elsewhere. Drop your file here to analyze its internal signature and convert it securely right in your browser - free, online, and without installing software.

The STI Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our STI converter.
