About WCT files
The .wct extension serves two distinct, specialized communities with incompatible needs. For the majority of historical files, it represents a WordCast Project, a legacy format created by FairLogic Systems for managing bulk email marketing campaigns and newsletter templates. These files act as containers for mailing lists, design layouts, and SMTP configurations. Users often attempt to open these archives to recover old client data or email templates, only to find that WordCast software is discontinued and modern operating systems treat the file as an unrecognized binary. The practical friction here is significant: without a working copy of the Windows-98/XP era software, the data is effectively locked in a proprietary database structure. A modern, active use case (approximately 18% of files) involves DataRay laser beam profiling. Generated by WinCamD software, these .wct files contain high-precision raster data from CCD or CMOS cameras used to measure laser beam width, divergence, and intensity distribution. Unlike standard images, these files store radiometrically calibrated data necessary for photonics engineering. Users in scientific fields often need to convert these from the proprietary raw format into standard TIFF images for publication or CSV files for analysis in Excel or MATLAB. For WordCast files, the best workaround is often a text extraction attempt or running the legacy software in a virtual machine to print to PDF.
