Convert WCD to another file type
To convert WCD Data files to another format, you need Microsoft Works or other Database software.
Convert a file to WCD
To convert other file formats to the "Application Data Container" file type, you need software like Microsoft Works or a similar tool.
About WCD files
The .wcd file extension represents several distinctly different proprietary data formats. Most frequently, it acts as a legacy calendar database for Microsoft Works, an orienteering course design file for Purple Pen, or an enterprise data container for the 1C:Enterprise platform. Additionally, it is used as a compiled game data file to store commentary or weapon customizations in video games like Pro Evolution Soccer and War Rock.
The main disadvantage of .wcd files is severe vendor lock-in. Legacy .wcd databases created by Microsoft Works require software that has been discontinued for well over a decade. Game-based .wcd files are closed, proprietary binary blobs designed strictly for proprietary game engines, making them completely unreadable in standard text editors. You cannot easily open these files on modern web browsers or standard operating systems without specialized software.
If you possess a calendar-based .wcd file, your ideal target format is CSV or ICS to migrate event data to modern platforms. However, exporting to standard formats usually results in the loss of custom formatting or complex recurring event rules native to the original software. Standard online converters fail to process .wcd files because they lack the specific parsing logic needed to handle obsolete JetDB structures or custom game archives.
This format is notoriously difficult to open or convert directly. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data safely. Despite these challenges, you can still rely on modern workarounds. Our system inspects the internal binary structure to identify the exact origin of the file. If our analysis detects an embedded database or plain text, viewing the contents or extracting raw data might still be possible even without the original software.
Convert.Guru analyzes your WCD file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert WCD file to MP3, WAV, AAC, FLAC, OGG, WMA, M4A, AIFF, OPUS, ALAC, APE or WV, you can use Microsoft Works or similar software from the "Proprietary Application Data Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert MIDI, AAC, TTA, AU, WV, DTS, MID, FLAC, RA, MP3, PCM or WAV files to WCD, try Microsoft Works or another comparable tool in the "Proprietary Application Data Storage" category.
The WCD Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our WCD converter.
