The .vp4 file is primarily used as a proprietary machine embroidery design file by Husqvarna Viking and Pfaff sewing machines, commonly managed within the mySewnet software ecosystem. These files contain highly specific machine instructions, including stitching coordinates, density parameters, and proprietary thread color palettes. In approximately 17% of cases, a .vp4 file is simply an MP4 video container formatted under the ISO Base Media Format that has been given a non-standard extension.
The main disadvantage of the .VP4 embroidery format is its strictly closed, proprietary nature. It locks users into specific hardware ecosystems and requires expensive software suites like PREMIER+ or mySewnet to fully edit. The files cannot be opened by standard vector graphics editors or web browsers, making collaboration with users of other embroidery machine brands extremely difficult.
