About VCA files

The .VCA file extension is highly fragmented and used by entirely different industries. Most commonly, it acts as a Contact Angle Analysis image generated by AST Products equipment. Despite the obscure extension, these files are usually standard GIF images in disguise. Another major use case is for automotive diagnostics, where it serves as a software registration file for Ross-Tech VCDS. Finally, optical laboratories use .VCA as a plain-text job data file defined by the Vision Council (OMA/VCA standard) to transmit prescription lens manufacturing instructions.

The primary disadvantage of the .VCA format is this fragmentation. Your computer has no idea which program should open it. If it is an image, standard photo viewers will reject it because the extension is unknown. If it is an ophthalmic data file, it requires specialized optical software like the Visionary Lab Management System to process the manufacturing instructions. If it is a VCDS registration file, it is locked to a specific hardware interface and cannot be modified.

To bypass these limits, conversion or extraction is necessary. For the image variants, converting the file to standard GIF, PNG, or JPG formats restores compatibility with web browsers and standard image editors. For optical lens data, viewing the file as TXT or CSV allows humans to read the prescription parameters.

Unfortunately, typical online converters fail with .VCA files because they rely solely on the file extension and do not inspect the file headers. This format is notoriously difficult to open without the original software. However, you can drag and drop your file into convert.guru to see what it is and convert it if supported. Our system analyzes the internal hex structure. If it detects the hidden GIF header or plain-text lens data, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your VCA file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted TFT, SEG and ROI files.
