Convert ROI to another file type
To convert ROI Regions of interest to another format, you need ImageJ or other Data software.
Convert a file to ROI
To convert other file formats to the "Image Analysis Metadata" file type, you need software like ImageJ or a similar tool.
About ROI files
A .ROI file primarily stores Region of Interest coordinates and metadata used in medical imaging, microscopy, and scientific image analysis. These files define specific boundaries, polygons, or areas on a base image (like a medical scan or micrograph) for targeted analysis. Major software handling these files includes OsiriX, ImageJ, and Olympus FluoView. Alternatively, .ROI files function as report output files generated by enterprise ERP systems like Infor SunSystems, Ross Systems, or Actuate.
The biggest disadvantage of the .ROI format is its highly proprietary and fragmented nature. Whether generated as an image region mask or an enterprise report, these files lack standardized structures. Medical and scientific .ROI files often exist as raw binary or UTF-16 encoded data. Because they only contain mathematical coordinates rather than visual image data, a standalone .ROI file is practically useless without the original base image (like a DCM or TIF). Similarly, ERP report versions are often locked inside Microsoft Compound containers, requiring an expensive enterprise software license to open.
Converting .ROI files directly into standard formats like PDF or JPG is notoriously difficult because standard online converters fail to understand that these files do not contain pixels. If our analysis detects an embedded format like readable text, a Microsoft Compound structure, or JSON data (such as in game saves), viewing the internal content or extracting data into a CSV or TXT may still be perfectly possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your ROI file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
Users also converted TFT, SEG, 1DXML, IRR and APR files.
FAQ
If you want to convert ROI file to IRR, APR, SHP, KML, KMZ, GPX, GEOJSON, TOPOJSON, TIF, TIFF, ECW or SID, you can use ImageJ or similar software from the "Region of Interest Data" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert LAZ, KMZ, DTM, CSV, DEM, PRJ, LAS, GPX, DSM, SHP, DBF or KML files to ROI, try ImageJ or another comparable tool in the "Region of Interest Data" category.
The ROI Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our ROI converter.
