About VC6 files

A .VC6 file is most commonly a 2D CAD drawing file associated with Micro-Images VectorCAD or legacy Vellum software. These files store vector geometry, layout plans, and drafting data. A smaller percentage of .VC6 files are disk images created by Virtual CD by H+H Software to store exact copies of CDs or DVDs.

The .VC6 CAD format is highly proprietary and obsolete. It presents severe disadvantages for modern users. It is not supported by web browsers, mobile devices, or standard drafting software like AutoCAD. Users often need a legacy operating system and the exact vintage software version to access their own architectural or engineering data. The Virtual CD image format is similarly locked to an abandoned software ecosystem, making data retrieval difficult.

To restore usability, CAD users must convert .VC6 to DXF, DWG, or PDF. Note that proprietary layer settings or custom vector metadata will likely be lost during translation. For disk images, you should convert the data to the standard ISO format to mount it on modern systems.

This file format is exceptionally difficult to open or convert because its internal data structure is closed and undocumented. Standard online converters fail because they lack the specific parsing logic required for these vintage formats. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data. We inspect the file signature to determine if it is a CAD drawing or a disk image. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your VC6 file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted VLM, PAINT and CZD files.

The VC6 Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our VC6 converter.
