About VC4 files
The .VC4 extension represents a collision of three distinct legacy formats, creating significant confusion for users trying to access their data.
Most commonly, a .VC4 file is a proprietary vocabulary data container used by phase-6 desktop vocabulary trainers and LingvoSoft dictionaries. These files store flashcards, learning progress, and definitions in a closed format. The primary disadvantage here is data lock-in; users often cannot migrate their hard-earned vocabulary lists to open platforms like Anki or spreadsheet software without conversion. For these users, converting .VC4 to CSV or TXT is essential for data portability.
Alternatively, a .VC4 file may be a Virtual CD disc image created by H+H Software. This is a legacy format (specifically version 4) used to emulate physical CD-ROMs. The drawback here is operating system compatibility; modern versions of Windows (10/11) feature native ISO mounting but do not recognize the older proprietary .VC4 structure. To access the files inside - often old games or software backups - users must convert the image to the industry-standard ISO format.
Finally, it may be a CAD project file associated with older versions of VarioCAD. These are strictly for 2D/3D engineering designs and require conversion to DXF or PDF for viewing by clients who do not own the specific CAD software.
Convert.Guru analyzes your VC4 file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert VC4 file to ISO, IMG, DMG, VHD, VMDK, VDI, HDD, QCOW, QCOW2, RAW, VBOX or OVA, you can use phase-6 or similar software from the "Vocabulary Data Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert VFD, DMG, OVA, IMA, VBOX, ADF, PVS, VHD, OVF, ISO, DSK or IMG files to VC4, try phase-6 or another comparable tool in the "Vocabulary Data Storage" category.
The VC4 Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our VC4 converter.
