About V00 files

The .V00 file extension is shared by two entirely different formats: a VMware ESXi software module and a Kretztechnik 3D/4D ultrasound volume data file. The VMware variant acts as a system driver archive and is internally a standard GZIP file used during the hypervisor boot process. The Kretztechnik variant stores volumetric medical imaging data, typically containing 3D scans of fetuses or internal organs. Users face significant challenges with both formats. VMware .V00 files are not recognized as standard archives by operating systems, causing confusion when administrators try to extract module contents. Kretztechnik .V00 files are even more problematic. They are a proprietary medical format restricted to clinical hardware and specialized software like KretzFileViewer. Expectant parents often receive these files on USB drives but cannot open them on standard computers or smartphones without expensive specialized software. If you need to access a VMware .V00 file, the best conversion target is a standard ZIP or TAR archive.
