Extract text from VMware and ultrasound files (V00)
To convert V00 data files to another format, you need VMware ESXi or other System software.

Most users encountering a .V00 file are dealing with one of two very different formats: a system driver archive for VMware ESXi or a 3D ultrasound scan from GE HealthCare (formerly Kretztechnik).
In the context of virtualization, a .V00 file is a boot bank module used by the VMware ESXi hypervisor. These are technically GZIP archives containing a proprietary vmtar (VMware Tape Archive) payload. Users typically encounter these when customizing ESXi installation ISOs or troubleshooting driver issues.
The Problem: The file is opaque and cannot be opened by standard Windows utilities like File Explorer. It appears as an unknown system file.
The Solution: Because the underlying format is GZIP, you can often rename the extension from .V00 to GZ and open it with 7-Zip or WinRAR to inspect the contents (usually a .vtar or .tar file containing drivers).
These files contain volumetric 3D/4D ultrasound data generated by Voluson equipment.
The Problem: Families often receive these files on a CD/DVD after a prenatal scan but cannot view them because the format is a raw data "volume," not a video file. Standard players like VLC cannot play them.
The Solution: To share the scan on social media or view it on a phone, the file must be converted to AVI or MP4. This requires the specific KretzFileViewer software (often included on the disc) to "Export to Video," or specialized medical image conversion tools.
