About UTX files

A .UTX file is primarily known as an Unreal Texture Package, a proprietary container format used by older versions of the Unreal Engine (generations 1 and 2) to store libraries of texture assets. These files are essential for rendering surfaces in classic games like Unreal Tournament, Lineage II, and Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell. While efficient for the game engine, .UTX files present significant challenges for modders and designers: they are binary archives that cannot be opened by standard image editors like Adobe Photoshop or GIMP. Users often encounter these files when attempting to extract game assets for modding, archiving, or upscaling purposes. Because the format is obsolete in modern development (replaced by UASSET), native support is virtually non-existent. To view or edit the textures inside, you must convert the .UTX package into accessible raster formats. For high-fidelity editing, converting to TGA or BMP is recommended to preserve alpha channels; for general viewing or web sharing, PNG or JPG are the most practical targets.

Convert.Guru analyzes your UTX file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted UKX, PNG, ZIP, BMP, JPG, CDW, U, UASSET and PCC files.
