About USF files
The .USF file extension serves multiple distinct purposes. Primarily, it acts as a user interface skin file for overclocking software like MSI Afterburner and RivaTuner. It is also heavily used by Unreal Engine as an Unreal Shader File, containing graphics rendering code. Additionally, it appears as an XML-based User Search Filter for Microsoft Lync Server, a Universal Subtitles Format file, or even an old Nintendo 64 music file. The main disadvantage of the .USF format is its extreme fragmentation. A skin file is completely unreadable without the specific parent utility, while shader files require a heavy game engine to process and compile. Subtitle .USF files are proprietary and not supported by modern web browsers or standard video players. Users often need to convert these files to bypass these frustrating limits. For skins, extracting the contents to ZIP allows access to the raw image assets. For shaders and search filters, converting to TXT or XML makes the code readable. For subtitles, converting to SRT or VTT is mandatory for video playback. Because .USF files lack a single standardized structure, standard online converters fail to process them. They cannot tell if the file is a compressed graphic archive or a block of XML code.
