About URI files
A .URI file is a deceptive file format - it is almost always a simple text file disguised with a specialized extension to trigger specific behaviors in niche software. The most common use (58%) is a ZINC Database download list, containing a series of URLs used by researchers to batch-download molecular data. These files are useless on their own without a command-line tool like wget or the ZINC Downloader script. Another major variation (14%) is the National Instruments (NI) DataPlugin registration file, which is actually formatted as XML. Users attempting to open these files directly often face "unknown file type" errors or are prompted to install expensive engineering suites like LabVIEW just to view a few lines of configuration data. For database administrators, Studio 3T uses this extension to export MongoDB connection strings, locking a simple mongodb:// address inside a proprietary-looking file. To make these files usable, the best workflow is to convert them to TXT (to view the URLs or connection strings) or XML (to edit the NI DataPlugin structure).
Convert.Guru analyzes your URI file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert URI file to URL, BITMAP, FILE, HTML, HTM, CSS, JS, PHP, ASP, ASPX, JSP or JSPX, you can use ZINC Database or similar software from the "Download List / Configuration" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert RSS, CSS, CGI, SITEMAP, PL, WEBMANIFEST, JSON, JS, XML, HTML, ICO or HTM files to URI, try ZINC Database or another comparable tool in the "Download List / Configuration" category.
The URI Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our URI converter.
