About BITMAP files

Files with the .bitmap extension typically fall into two distinct categories, creating frequent confusion for users. The majority are standard Windows Bitmap (BMP) images that have been mislabeled or are displaying the operating system's generic file type description. These are uncompressed raster images known for their high quality but excessive file size (often exceeding 50MB for simple graphics), making them unsuitable for email attachments or web use. A smaller subset (approximately 16%) are technically Apple Core Foundation character set data files - binary resources used by macOS and iOS developers to map Unicode characters. While the image variant can be easily converted, the Apple data variant is a system resource not intended for viewing. For the image format, users should convert to JPG for photography, PNG for transparent web graphics, or PDF for archiving. This resolves the storage overhead and compatibility issues inherent to the raw bitmap format.

Convert.Guru analyzes your BITMAP file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted PNG, BMP, JPG, MARKER, INPUT, SNIP, SVG, JPEG, ICON and PDF files.
