Extract text from update files (UPDATE)
To convert UPDATE updates to another format, you need Sitecore CMS or other System software.
To convert other file formats to the "Firmware & Deployment Package" file type, you need software like Sitecore CMS or a similar tool.
The .update file format typically serves two distinct purposes: as a deployment package for the Sitecore content management system, or as a proprietary firmware update for hardware devices such as Barco projectors and Behringer digital mixers (like the XR18). Sitecore update files are actually standard ZIP archives containing XML configuration files, DLL binaries, and web assets used to patch the platform or install modules. Conversely, firmware update variants contain compiled binary data tailored to highly specific hardware architectures.
The main disadvantage of .update files is their highly specialized, closed nature. Hardware firmware updates are proprietary, undocumented, and entirely useless outside their specific device ecosystem. Sitecore packages technically require the Sitecore Installation Wizard to deploy correctly on a server. Because these are machine-level patches and deployment archives, they are not supported by web browsers and require expert knowledge to handle safely. Standard online converters cannot process these files into usable documents or media.
While direct conversion into common formats is mostly impossible, you can often extract Sitecore-based .update files into standard ZIP archives to inspect their inner source code, configurations, and libraries.
Because firmware and deployment files are complex and closed, standard conversion tools fail. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format (like a standard ZIP structure), viewing or extraction may still be possible.
