About TVM files
The .tvm file extension is a proprietary 3D format, most predominantly serving as a Traffic Vehicle Model for the cult classic racing simulator Street Legal Racing: Redline. These files contain the 3D mesh data, texture coordinates, and hierarchy information for the low-poly AI vehicles that populate the game's city streets. Unlike the highly detailed, component-based player cars, .tvm files are optimized for performance and compiled into a format that standard 3D software like Blender or Autodesk 3ds Max cannot natively read. This is a major drawback for modders who wish to add custom traffic cars or extract existing models for rendering.
A secondary, though less common, use of the format is for Truevision3D (TV3D) models, a legacy 3D engine used in early 2000s game development. In both cases, the primary challenge is the proprietary lock-in; users cannot simply double-click to view the content. To modify these assets or use them in modern engines like Unity or Unreal Engine, users must convert them to interoperable exchange formats. For general 3D editing, converting to OBJ (Wavefront Object) is the most reliable method as it preserves geometry and UV mapping universally. For game development pipelines involving animation, converting to FBX is recommended.
Convert.Guru analyzes your TVM file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
Users also converted TVW, HTML, BLEND, PMX and SAT files.
The TVM Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our TVM converter.
