About TTML files
The .TTML file extension stands for Timed Text Markup Language. Developed by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), it is an XML-based format designed to deliver timed text, closed captions, and subtitles across web video platforms. You can open and view the raw code of these files using standard text editors like Notepad++ or edit them visually with specialized tools like Subtitle Edit.
Despite being a standardized format, .TTML has severe practical disadvantages for average users. Because it relies heavily on complex XML structures and extensive CSS styling, it is highly prone to compatibility issues. Many standard media players, older smart TVs, and basic video editing suites cannot parse the heavy markup, resulting in missing subtitles or on-screen code errors. To ensure playback compatibility, users frequently need to convert .TTML to simpler, universally supported formats like SRT (SubRip) or VTT (WebVTT).
Standard online converters often fail to correctly map the intricate XML timing tags. Our engine will inspect the file and, if it detects supported underlying text and timestamps, safely extract them to more common formats while stripping away the unnecessary XML bloat.
Convert.Guru analyzes your TTML file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert TTML file to SRT, TEXT, VTT, MP4, AVI, MOV, WMV, FLV, WEBM, MKV, M4V or 3GP, you can use Subtitle Edit or similar software from the "Web Video Closed Captions" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert MTS, MOV, RMVB, DIVX, RM, H264, TS, WMV, VOB, MP4, XVID or AVI files to TTML, try Subtitle Edit or another comparable tool in the "Web Video Closed Captions" category.
The TTML Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our TTML converter.
