A .tss file most commonly functions as a session setup file for Tektronix oscilloscopes or a building management system schematic for Trend Control Systems. It is also utilized by CWATM hydrological models, CCH Personal Tax software, Yost Labs sensors, and video games for local save data.
These files present severe disadvantages because .tss is a fractured, umbrella extension used by completely unrelated programs. Depending on the software that created it, a single .tss file could be a compressed ZIP container holding hardware configurations, UTF-16 (LE) text, raw XML or JSON data, or a proprietary binary blob. They often require expensive, niche hardware or specific software suites like IQVISION to open natively. Users outside of these specific ecosystems are completely locked out of the data.
If you possess a text-based or container-based .tss file, converting the internal code to standard TXT, CSV, or extracting the ZIP contents is highly recommended for accessibility. However, this file format is inherently difficult to open or convert blindly.
