About COV files
A .COV file typically serves as a Fax Cover Page used by the legacy Microsoft Windows Fax and Scan utility. It contains the layout and default text fields sent ahead of the main fax document. In software development, the .COV extension is extensively used for code coverage data files generated by tools like BullseyeCoverage, PHPUnit, or Coverity to track which lines of code were executed during automated testing. Furthermore, agricultural hardware from Ag Leader Technology or Case New Holland (CNH) generates .COV files to log field coverage maps. Sadly, the .COV extension was also co-opted by the Coverton (STOP/Djvu) ransomware family to rename encrypted user files. The sheer variety of .COV formats is a major disadvantage. The format lacks standardization. A Microsoft Fax .COV is entirely useless to an agricultural mapping system or a software developer. These are proprietary data structures tied to specialized software. For instance, code coverage files often require a costly enterprise license to parse natively. They are not supported by standard web browsers. If you have a Fax Cover Page, your best conversion target is PDF or DOCX for modern sharing. Code coverage files are best exported to XML, JSON, or CSV to integrate with continuous integration pipelines. Agricultural map data should ideally be converted to SHP (Shapefile) or KML for GIS applications. Standard online converters usually fail to process .COV files because they cannot guess the underlying binary or text structure. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your COV file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert COV file to INDD, QXP, PUB, PMD, PM6, PM7, PM8, PM9, PM10, PM11, OMP or P65, you can use Windows Fax and Scan or similar software from the "Fax & Data Coverage Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert MDI, PUB, PDP, PM4, P65, COMIC, WEBTEMPLATE, PMD, SPUB, INDD, PM5 or QXP files to COV, try Windows Fax and Scan or another comparable tool in the "Fax & Data Coverage Storage" category.
The COV Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our COV converter.
