Convert a file to TQD
To convert other file formats to the "DJ Metadata Sidecar" file type, you need software like Traktor Pro or a similar tool.
About TQD files
A .tqd file is primarily a DJ Track Analysis sidecar file used by professional mixing software like Pioneer DJ rekordbox and Traktor Pro. It stores critical performance metadata - such as beatgrids, waveform visuals, cue points, and loop settings - separately from the actual audio file (MP3/WAV).
The Problem: Users often discover thousands of .tqd files cluttering their music libraries after exporting a database or syncing a USB drive for Pioneer ProDJ Link. A common misconception is that these files contain audio; in reality, they are small data packages (often under 100KB) that are useless without the corresponding music file. They are proprietary and unreadable by standard media players like VLC or iTunes. Furthermore, migrating this data to other platforms (like Serato or VirtualDJ) is difficult because the format is not an industry standard like XML or M3U.
The Solution:
For DJ Library Migration: To save your cues and playlists, you don't "open" the TQD file directly. Instead, use the source software (rekordbox or Traktor) to export your collection to XML or NML (Native Instruments), which can then be converted to CSV, M3U8, or other DJ formats using library management tools.
For Industrial Automation: A secondary but significant use (25%) is within Trend Control Systems for IQView display configurations. These should be opened or converted using Eurotherm iTools or Trend's SET software to update or migrate HMI layouts.

The TQD Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our TQD converter.
