About SCO files
The .sco extension is a classic example of file format collision, predominantly serving as a Scene Object file for the Mount & Blade RPG series. These files define the spatial arrangement of props, terrain, and spawn points within a game level. They are not standard 3D models you can open directly in Blender; they are proprietary definitions interpreted by the game engine. Users often have trouble when trying to mod these files, as they require specialized community tools like Thorgrim's Map Editor or the in-game 'Edit Mode' rather than standard text editors.
A significant portion of .sco files are also compiled scripts for Rockstar Games titles like Grand Theft Auto IV and V (using the RAGE engine), or 3D assets for League of Legends. For GTA modders, the challenge is that these are binary, compiled files - you cannot read them without a decompiler tool to revert them to human-readable code. Less commonly, you might have an Avid Sibelius Scorch file, which is a web-optimized digital music score. If you are stuck with an unreadable .sco file, the 'conversion' usually involves extracting data to TXT, decompiling to script source, or exporting 3D geometry to OBJ depending on the origin game.
Convert.Guru analyzes your SCO file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
Users also converted CSO, PNG, JPG, PDF, SKP, PLG, S7 and SIB files.
The SCO Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our SCO converter.
