About TML files
The .TML file extension is a fragmented format used by at least a dozen completely different software applications. The two most common uses are Touch Portal remote control page layouts and Apache Tapestry web component templates. The biggest disadvantage of a .TML file is this lack of standardization. Operating systems rarely know which program to use to open them, leading to errors. For Touch Portal, the files contain proprietary JSON structures that control virtual button layouts and macros. Without the desktop application, you cannot preview the interface. Tapestry .TML files are XML documents that define user interface elements for Java web applications. Web browsers refuse to render them properly because the extension is non-standard. Other obscure uses include configuration files for games like The Battle for Wesnoth or texture map lists for Jurassic Park: Operation Genesis. Because most .TML variants are plain text underneath, changing the format solves the compatibility issues. For editing Touch Portal layouts, convert the file to JSON. If you work with Tapestry templates, convert them to HTML or XML to enable syntax highlighting and browser rendering. For game configuration files, convert to TXT for safe text editing.
