About TDB files
The .TDB file extension is a generic container primarily associated with the Tanner Database format used by Tanner L-Edit (now part of Siemens) for integrated circuit (IC) layout and verification. It stores complex electronic design automation (EDA) data, including masks, layers, and cell libraries. However, the extension is widely reused across the industry: it often signifies a Microsoft Jet Database, a Samsung or Android thumbnail cache (similar to Windows Thumbs.db), an SQLite database, or even a legacy eBay Turbo Lister file.
The primary issue with .TDB files is format ambiguity and proprietary lock-in. A Tanner .TDB cannot be opened by standard database viewers like Microsoft Access or text editors, requiring expensive, specialized engineering software. Users holding .TDB files from backups, mobile devices, or legacy systems are often unable to access the critical data inside due to binary encoding and lack of metadata.
To retrieve actionable data, the best approach is conversion based on the file's internal structure. For database variants (Tanner, Jet, SQLite), converting to CSV or XLSX is ideal for analysis in spreadsheet software. For thumbnail caches, extracting contents to JPG or PNG restores the images. For archived documentation or eBook types (like Snowball), converting to PDF ensures long-term readability without specific software dependencies.
Convert.Guru analyzes your TDB file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
Users also converted TBD, TDP, GDS, PSS, ZIP, YTD, PDF, IBD, SAV, MPD and UTC files.
The TDB Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our TDB converter.
