The .TDA file extension is a multi-purpose data container format primarily used by specialized hardware and analytical software. Most commonly, it functions as an internal data file for Topfield Personal Video Recorders (PVR) or as a Thermal Analysis Data file generated by TA Instruments Universal Analysis software. It is also used for data logger archives by Termodat, older Palm PDA To-Do lists, and Java Application Thread Dumps.
The primary disadvantage of the .TDA format is severe vendor lock-in. Because it is highly proprietary, these files cannot be opened by standard web browsers, generic spreadsheet tools, or native operating system utilities. For example, Topfield PVR .TDA files use internal zlib compression to manage DVR metadata, rendering them completely illegible to standard text editors.
