A .TDA file is a multi-purpose container that typically falls into one of three distinct categories, each requiring a completely different approach. Most commonly, it acts as a metadata container for Topfield PVR (Personal Video Recorder) systems, often compressed with zlib to store recording schedules or system logs. These are not video files and cannot be played in VLC Media Player.

Alternatively, in scientific settings, this extension represents Thermal Analysis Data generated by TA Instruments software (like Universal Analysis). These proprietary files contain critical experimental data (DSC, TGA) that is locked inside the software, making it impossible to open in Microsoft Excel without conversion.

Finally, it may be a legacy Palm OS To-Do archive, a remnant of early 2000s PDA syncing. Users typically encounter these files when trying to recover old data or when migrating scientific results.
