About TCN files
The .TCN extension refers to two distinct but technical file formats, creating frequent confusion for users. The most common variety is a proprietary CNC program file generated by TPA Albatros EdiCAD (TPA CAD/CAM). These files act as the digital brain for automated woodworking machinery, containing vector geometry, drilling patterns, and machine-specific toolpaths. Because they are designed for industrial controllers, they are often locked to the specific machine configuration or dongle-protected software like TPA EdiCAD, making them inaccessible to standard CAD tools like AutoCAD. Users typically need to convert these to DXF to salvage the 2D drawing data or PDF for shop floor documentation.
A secondary, less common use of the format is as a 3D model file created by Techne (or similar legacy modeling tools). Unlike the industrial binary of the TPA format, these are often compressed archives (ZIP-based) containing XML data. Users with these files are generally looking to migrate their 3D assets to modern formats like OBJ, STL, or GLB for use in current rendering engines or 3D printing slicers.
Convert.Guru analyzes your TCN file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
Users also converted DXF, DWG, JPG, STEP, PMX and GLB files.
The TCN Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our TCN converter.
