About TBS files

The .TBS extension primarily functions as a Process Trend Data Log generated by Rockwell Automation FactoryTalk View. These binary logs capture critical historical data from industrial machinery but are notoriously difficult to analyze outside the proprietary ecosystem. Users often need to convert these locked logs into CSV or XLSX formats to visualize production trends in Microsoft Excel.

A secondary but significant use is the TwinCAT Backup Storage file by Beckhoff. These files act as compressed archives containing system configurations. In many cases, these are standard ZIP archives with a changed extension, meaning they can often be renamed and extracted to view the internal XML or directory structure without specialized software.

Legacy and niche uses include TuneUp Utilities boot screens (renamed ZIPs containing BMP or PNG images) and configuration files for games like The Binding of Satan or The Witcher 3. For these, the conversion goal is usually extraction to recover assets or modify settings.

Convert.Guru analyzes your TBS file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted XLSX, PDF, JPG, MER, TTP, MLF, TSP, MLS and CC files.

The TBS Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our TBS converter.
