About TBS files
The .TBS file extension primarily represents a Process Trend Data Log generated by Rockwell Automation FactoryTalk View. These files store historical machine data, alarm logs, and process metrics from industrial control systems. Another major use for .TBS files is as a Backup Storage File for Beckhoff TwinCAT automation software, which internally relies on standard ZIP or GZIP compression. You may also encounter .TBS files as legacy Windows boot screens created by TuneUp Utilities or BootSkin, or as game configuration files for titles like The Witcher 3.
The main disadvantage of a FactoryTalk .TBS file is its strict proprietary nature. You cannot simply open it in a text editor or spreadsheet to analyze the machine data without an active, expensive Rockwell software license. TwinCAT backups, while heavily compressed, use a confusing extension that prevents quick extraction by standard operating system tools. Legacy boot screens are entirely obsolete and useless on modern Windows versions.
To analyze your factory data, you must convert the trend log into a CSV or XLSX file so it can be parsed in data science tools or spreadsheets. For TwinCAT files, converting the archive to ZIP enables standard extraction tools to unpack the logic code and project assets safely.
Convert.Guru analyzes your TBS file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert TBS file to TSP, MLS, CC, TMP, TEMP, CACHE, LOG, BAK, OLD, NEW, PART or DOWNLOAD, you can use FactoryTalk View or similar software from the "Industrial Automation Data Log" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….

The TBS Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our TBS converter.
